One of the greatest concerns for parents today is their children’s safety in all kinds of environments; keeping a watchful eye almost all the time can prove to be an impossible task. Hence, the knowledge of body safety and body boundaries is an essential awareness and a crucial learning we must offer our children in this day and age.
Self-defense does not just involve physically warding off or fighting an unwelcome person, but is essentially having an awareness of your surroundings and being self-assured in any situation. It has been observed that children with a well-developed level of confidence hold themselves in such a manner that bullies are naturally kept at bay.
Educating children about ‘good touch’ and ‘bad touch’, giving them the confidence to speak and confide about uncomfortable situations or approaches, to be alert in unfamiliar surroundings, and trusting their instincts, raises self assurance. This kind of knowledge also empowers children to move through various settings with ease, provides comfort and trust in sharing concerns, and having conversations about difficult situations they may encounter in the absence of parents or peers.
Our program in Self Defense covers some very pertinent subjects, such as how to set strong verbal boundaries, keeping a safe distance, positive action instead of a negative reaction and how to use an element of surprise to escape or move away from a threatening situation or person.
