“Our task is to educate their (our students) whole being so they can face the future. We may not see the future, but they will and our job is to help them make something of it.”

Ken RobinsonThe Element How Finding Your Passion Changes Everything

Sarwat Gilani

It was during the pandemic I was made to realize that there is an enormous gap between parents and children of today. After viewing my online arts and crafts classes, most mothers would reach out and ask, ‘how do you manage to keep your kids involved, engaged and so well behaved?’

Of course it didn’t come naturally to me. I too had to learn that there is a certain way we need to communicate with our children in rapidly changing times. Insights on conscious parenting, along with a bit of research on how to better raise children, is knowledge I had to acquire along the way, and now, I would like to share with other mothers to benefit from my gain.

Also, as a parent, I was disappointed to realize that there weren’t any places in Karachi offering a holistic range of arts and creative activities under one roof where I could send my kids and that is how and why I came up with the concept of the Art House. My online classes had already made me realize the conundrum the other mothers faced, and this would allow me to help them get the ‌exposure I would want for my own children.

As an artist and graphic designer, I feel engaging in art and providing your children with creative materials helps them explore their interests, in setting goals and leads to better decision-making capabilities in the future. The exposure also helps them with understanding on how to achieve goals in the future, creates an awareness, even appreciation and respect for their cultural and social environment. And of course, all the collaboration, interaction and engagement with their peers builds their emotional and intelligence quotient tremendously.

At Art House by Sarwat Gilani, we encourage children to learn through exploration. The formative years of a child’s life are critical in setting the groundwork for future learning during which knowledge is absorbed at an astonishing rate and the skills necessary to succeed in life are refined. Children develop the foundation of respectful and compassionate communication with others, learn to operate as part of a group, and negotiate and solve problems tactfully by using appropriate manners and etiquettes throughout the day. We support children to traverse through various activities to find their interests while feeling safe to take calculated risks and delve into areas that seem unfamiliar in order to enhance their learning experience.

As we recognize that most learning occurs through active participation, we believe a strong connection between home and school is essential for a successful educational experience. Our management communicates regularly with parents and is always available to discuss issues and progress. Parents can share their expertise or family culture with their child’s class for an enriched learning for all. We constantly look for new ways to involve parents and welcome refreshing views and suggestions which can add more value to the students’ journey with us.

We invite you to visit us and see our students and teachers in action. You can view first-hand how your child will benefit from attending Art House by Sarwat Gilani.
